Wabash's Pynenberg Named All-America

The American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com have selected Wabash senior linebacker Adi Pynenberg to their respective annual All-America teams.

The AFCA names a single team, of which Adi is a member. D3football.com also honored Adi, naming him to the First Team - Defense.

He also was named to the second team of the AP Little All-America Team and is the first Wabash consensus football All-America selection since tight end Ryan Short '03 earned All-America honors from all three organizations in 2002.

Congrats!

Congratulations to Ohio Wesleyan grad Jay Vidovich '82 and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on their first men's soccer championship this past weekend.

Wake Forest defeated Ohio State, 2-1, in the NCAA Div. I championship game on Sunday.

Jay played for Indiana on its nationally-ranked 1978 team before transferring to Ohio Wesleyan, where he was a three-year starter. In 1982, he served as captain while leading the Battling Bishops to the NCAA semifinals.

Wittenberg Freshman Tennis Player Announces Bid For State Senate Seat

Wittenberg freshman men's tennis player James Howard recently announced plans to run for the Ohio State Senate, representing the 10th district, which includes Clark, Greene and Madison counties.

He will compete in the March 4, 2008, Republican primary election that currently includes state Rep. Chris Widener and former Greene County Commissioner W. Reed Madden.

"I'm running because I didn't like any of the candidates, and I really think I can make a difference," Howard said.

James is from Beavercreek, Ohio and is just 18 years old. He has fittingly declared a political science major at Wittenberg. He is running on a platform that includes a pledge to eliminate regressive tax structures and an emphasis on education funding issues that have confounded Ohio legislators for years. He feels that he represents an opportunity for change.

"I'm from here so I'm going to look out for this district," Howard said. "What bugs me is that people get elected and they move away from the area."

If he wins the Republican primary, he would face a Democratic challenger in the Nov. 4, 2008, general election, which is likely to have a significant turnout due to the presidential election.

He is running for the seat currently held by Republican Steve Austria, who has served two four-year terms and cannot run again due to term limits.
